Ambitious Midwife

‍

Would you like to contribute to future-proof, high-quality care around pregnancy, birth and child care on St. Eustatius?

St. Eustatius Health Care Foundation (SEHCF) is looking for a committed, qualified and proactive midwife who helps ensure the continuity of midwifery care and contributes to its further development on the island.

This versatile position combines direct patient care with strengthening local care around pregnancy, mother and child. You work independently in a small-scale, international healthcare environment where collaboration, professional responsibility and personal attention are central.

‍

Your role

As a midwife, you play a key role in the prenatal, natal and postnatal care pathway. You support and guide pregnant women and their families during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. You independently carry out prenatal consultations and risk assessments, attend births and provide appropriate education and aftercare.

You are part of the SEHCF obstetrics and gynecology team. Within this multidisciplinary team, you work closely with the gynecologist, the tropical medicine physician and other healthcare professionals involved. Together, the team is responsible for providing and further developing high-quality, safe and accessible maternal and child care on St. Eustatius.

In case of complications or increased risks, you consult the gynecologist, the tropical medicine physician or other relevant professionals in time. The position also includes developing preventive pregnancy care, structured education for expectant parents, health promotion and integrated care around mother and child.

‍

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out prenatal consultations, pregnancy checkups and risk screening
  • Independently guiding low-risk pregnancies and births
  • Identifying medical, psychosocial and other pregnancy related risks

  • Promoting preventive care and a healthy lifestyle around pregnancy and motherhood
  • Contributing to the development of local healthcare services in the field of pregnancy, maternal and child care
  • Strengthening collaboration with local and regional partner organizations, including healthcare organizations within the BES islands
  • Contributing to and/or drafting protocols, quality policy, professional development and continuous improvement
  • Working in accordance with the SEHCF quality and safety guidelines
    ‍

Your profile

  • A completed bachelor's degree in Midwifery or an equivalent, recognized professional education
  • Valid Dutch BIG registration for professional practice in the Caribbean Netherlands
  • Professional authority and competence to provide midwifery care independently
  • Good command of English and Dutch, both spoken and written; knowledge of Spanish is an advantage
  • Willingness to work flexibly in a 24/7 care environment, resilience and a strong sense of responsibility
  • Strong communication and organizational skills and the ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Willingness to work with other healthcare professionals and healthcare organizations on the BES islands
